Luchs performs well only in 1/4 OKW games at current moment (and, really, let it be so, Luchs meta was really too deadly, just like Stuart meta few years ago). If u are saying truth, you have one unit and your enemy has another to answer, so winning is not happening by "who's unit is better" but "who's micro/skill was better" (and, of course, blessing of RNGesus).Īgain, unfortunately, your thesis is not 100% true. And armour is rarely a good idea, as I've said earlier. Infantry-heavy enemy strategies? You've got your pick of any combination of the flak halftrack, MG34, walking stuka and luchs. Thanks for reading.Įnemy emplacements? ISGs have you covered. If you think I'm talking nonsense, please reply and talk me through some good strategies to counter their units - I mainly play USF and UKF when I play Allies. I hope some members of the community can look at this and see where I'm coming from, and I hope members of the balance team can act on at least some of this in upcoming patches (assuming they actually happen!). If they're supposed to be about preserving units until they get to high veterancy, why are volksgrenadiers so cheap, and why are infantry losses so easy to replace with obersoldaten? Should they have tools to lay the smackdown equally as effectively on infantry as tanks, and should they be so cheap and immediately available? Second off, I think a look needs to be taken at what exactly this faction's strengths and weaknesses are supposed to be. They are easily the most versatile faction in the game, and while many other factions rely on anticipating the enemy's strategy, they have the tools to fight reactively and come out on top. I would suggest that Relic's balance team take a serious look at a few things - first off, the amount of tools an OKW player has to deal with any situation, and their availability. But as it stands, I believe they need to be looked at - as someone who primarily plays 2v2 and 1v1, it frequently feels like the overwhelming majority of my losses are at the hands of OKW players. If the enemy is a little less familiar with them, they can be really fun to fight - I like them as a faction, and don't want them to be bad. They've got a lot of really cool units, and cool theme - they're the most hardcore of the hardcore, the veterans of the German army fighting to the end for their homes and loved ones beside fresh conscripts and with the heaviest armour of the war to help them along. And armour is rarely a good idea, as I've said earlier.ĭon't get me wrong, I do really like the OKW. Enemy emplacements? ISGs have you covered. This becomes more apparent as more tools are made available - they have tools to effectively manage any situation they're put in. Combined with the effectiveness of sturmpioneers and volksgrenadiers - a force that any competent player can manage well enough to make utterly devastating against other faction's infantry options - it often feels like the OKW are a faction with a lot of strengths and very few weaknesses. The trifecta of fausts, schreks and rakets makes it child's play to defeat early allied armour. I don't believe that panzerfausts should be available to them, especially given the Sturm's ability to receive a panzerschrek and the presence of the raketenwerfer (which is, between its camouflage, high rate of fire, ability to retreat and consistent damage, one of the best AT guns in the game). Volksgrenadiers are a rifle unit that does perform in a way consistent with their 250mp cost, but they have a lot of utility that is unlocked naturally as command trucks are built which makes them too cost-effective. They're an exceptionally low-risk high-reward unit to get two or three of, and will reliably beat every other starting infantry unit if used in a consistently aggressive manner. Sturmpioneers are, quite frankly, not a unit that should be immediately accessible. The main problem lies with their starting units. However, what is immensely apparent to myself - and a lot of people I play with - is that OKW are a faction that is unfairly oppressive at all stages of the game. Starting off, I know this is the sort of post that's going to get me laughed out of the forum by a lot of the people who frequent it, but I'm going to make it anyway because I love CoH 2 as a game and really want to see it improved.īasically, I think in recent years something of an echo-chamber has occurred in the community, basically brought about by a lot of players getting fed up with the game and leaving and those that remain being okay with the current state of balance - it wouldn't surprise me to learn that a disproportionate amount of forum-goers are OKW mains.
